The shipbuilding industry was very strong in New Hampshire.

Families grew their own food and collected beef and milk from cattle.
The colonists hunted, they made weavings and created homes with wood.
Some of the main jobs in Connecticut were fishing, shipbuilding and whaling.
Rhode Island:
Dairy and cattle farms were very common.
Most families lived on farms and grew food for themselves and some left over to trade.
Shipbuilding was a huge occupation.
Rhode Island was also one of the world's slave trading centers.
Massachusettes:
The colonists grew food for themselves and for local trade.
They collected forest timber for lumber, they raised cattle and they trapped fur.
Most of the colonists were shopkeepers, tradesmen or in the shipbuilding industry.
New Hampshire:
They had a very strong shipbuilding industry because they used surrounding resources.
There was good fishing and they had access to the ocean to send goods to England.
Puritans often came to this area seeking religous freedom.
One of the main jobs in Connecticut was fishing.
